5 Social Media Marketing Tips for Pinterest
Here at SoBu Social Media Marketing, we talk a lot about how Pinterest is our favourite Social Media platform for marketing our clients. This is because, not only is it one of the most effective platforms to market your brand, it’s also a fun tool for engaging with your online audience.
If you’re still not convinced your brand can benefit from marketing on Pinterest, you’ll find some pretty compelling Pinterest statistics here that might change your mind.
If you already know about Pinterest’s usefulness as a Social Media Marketing tool and want to learn how you can use it to reach a larger audience, promote brand engagement and drive traffic to your website, SoBu’s 5 tips for better marketing on Pinterest will get you started on the right path.
5 Social Media Marketing Tips for Pinterest
Dedicate a Pinterest board to your team: Social Media Marketing is all about connecting your band with your online audience in a personal and intimate way that traditional marketing does not facilitate. What better way to get personal with your audience then to create a Pinterest board dedicated to your company’s team?
On your team’s Pinterest board, include an image of the key figures in your company along with a blurb explaining that team member’s role. To make things a little more personal, include brief details about each person’s hobbies, favourite foods, family life, or really anything that your team feels comfortable sharing that won’t come across as an overshare to your audience.
Cover a wide breadth of topics: Pinterest is a wonderful world full of great content just waiting to be shared and interacted with. With all the sharing possibilities, avoid sticking to a narrow topic.
While it is important to keep your activities on Pinterest on-brand, it’s a good idea to cover fringe topics on your Pinterest boards as well.
A great example of this is our clients, Essential Life Aromatherapy. They are an essential oil brand who provides valuable information on how to get the most out of every single drop of essential oil. While their niche market is somewhat narrow, on their Pinterest, they tackle topics like Yoga, Mindfulness and other subjects which don’t relate directly to their brand, but are inline with their brand values.
Post more than just pictures: If you visit our own Pinterest page, you’ll find that our favourite thing to share on our Pinterest boards is infographics. We love them, and so does our audience. We don’t exclusively post infographics, though.
In addition to all of the infographics SoBu Social Media Marketing shares on Pinterest, we also pin a great deal of content relating to Social Media tips and tricks; Social Media news; digital marketing tips, trick and trends; search engine optimisation techniques and tips; and so much more. You’ll also find videos and gifs on our Pinterest boards.
To keep things interesting for your audience, post a variety of different types of content. Videos are a particularly effective way to get your audience’s attention. You can pin videos your your Pinterest boards just like you would pin an image or any other article.
Use Rich Pins: Rich Pins are a feature of Pinterest that makes it even easier for your audience to engage with you and your content. Rich Pins add extra details to your pins to make them more useful to your audience.
If your brand sells a physical product, Rich Pins allow you to share item descriptions, price, variations and more, right from Pinterest. If you have a recipe that you’d like to share, all of the information your audience needs will be available in a single, Rich Pin. You can learn more about rich pins, and how to use them, here.
Run Pinterest contests: Often referred to as “Pin it to win it” contests, there are a number of effective and exciting ways to engage your audience with Pinterest contests.
If your brand sells a physical product, you could incentivise the pinning of that product to your audience’s Pinterest boards with the promise of a free gift to the winner. This is a great way to encourage your audience to share your product so that their Pinterest audience sees it.
Another great use of Pinterest contests is the creation of a public Pinterest board which your audience can pin things to. In the case of Essential Life Aromatherapy, we recently ran a pinterest contest in which we invited users to share their favourite meditation mantras on one of ELA’s Pinterest boards for a chance to win an Essential Oil prize pack. The response was overwhelming.
